What are we doing?

Scenario: You are an aspiring filmmaker, eager to break onto the short film festival circuit. Before making your first film, you need to make sure it is likely to be a success. That means you need to learn about research methods, and then use them on your own film idea. You also need to make a living while you’re learning, so you produce work for local schools and universities.

What EXACTLY are we doing?

Three big assignments.

  • Produce a resource to teach kids how to conduct research

  • Produce research into a film that already exists

  • Produce research into your own film idea.

ASSIGNMENT 1:

You need to CREATE A RESOURCE to teach LEVEL 2/ GCSE students about RESEARCH METHODS.

TASK 1

You will have a series of lessons on research methods and techniques. Take notes.

TASK 2:

Use your notes and further research to produce a resource – a document, a webpage, a short video essay film or a presentation – aimed at 14-16 year old students to teach them about research methods and techniques. You need to EXPLAIN (for merit) and EVALUATE (for distinction) these various methods and you need to INCLUDE (for merit) and EXPLAIN IN DETAIL (for distinction) EXAMPLES of everything you discuss.
